Home Patient Care Optometric Services When you visit our shop, situated on the first floor of the UCI Health Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, you can rest assured that you are in good hands. Our optometrists give your eyes a thorough examination and treat any vision problems you may be experiencing. Our opticians work with you to select frames that fit and flatter your face. They also help you find the type of contact lenses that work best for you. If you have underlying medical conditions that affect your vision, we have board-certified, world-renowned ophthalmologists on site able to treat eye problems ranging from mild myopia to rare ocular and retinal disorders. This allows time for you to complete your paperwork and pretesting procedures. Your general eye exam will include refraction to complete a prescription for eyeglasses, and dilation to complete your ocular health check. Please bring all of your current glasses. A regular eye exam takes about 30 minutes. Contact Lens Exam Appointments For contact lens appointments, please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment. Be sure to wear your contact lenses to the exam and bring in the parameters of your contact lenses, which can be found on the boxes they come in or an old contact lens prescription. If you are new to contact lenses, we have a specialist to teach you how to handle (insert and remove) as well as, clean and care for them. If you are a new contact lens patient, your appointment will last approximately one hour.
