What are the eligibility requirements? Fellowship applicants must have: A medical degree from a U.S. or Canadian medical school approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Satisfactorily completed steps one, two and three of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Successfully completed the Ophthalmic Knowledge Assessment Program (OKAP) Successfully completed a three-year ophthalmology residency A California medical license before beginning the fellowship Be a U.S. citizen or have a valid J1 visa What are the application procedures? All applicants must register with and apply through SF Match (or San Francisco Match). Applications should be received by the department by the end of August. Applicants are notified by email if they are selected for personal interviews with faculty members. What are the salary and benefits? UCI Gavin Herbert Eye Institute offers Fellows a competitive salary. Choices for health, vision, and dental insurance are available through the Veterans Administration at additional cost. Life insurance is provided at no additional cost to the fellow. Long-term disability insurance is offered at an additional cost through the University of California Regents. Fellows are provided with professional liability coverage for all activities that are approved components of the fellowship program.
