Educational Goals

  • Recognize common causes of red eyes in children and determine appropriate initial management and referral.
  • Identify signs of pediatric low vision and describe resources that support visual function, development, and learning.
  • Recognize ocular manifestations of systemic disorders and genetic syndromes that warrant ophthalmic evaluation.
  • Describe current understanding of childhood myopia, including risk factors, progression, and management approaches.
  • Distinguish pediatric eye emergencies from conditions appropriate for routine ophthalmology referral.
  • Perform age-appropriate vision screening, red reflex assessment, and ocular alignment and motility testing.
  • Apply pediatric eye examination techniques through guided, hands-on practice to support early detection and timely referral.
